Feb. 25, 2010 - PRLog -- BLOOMINGDALE, OH—The Apostolate for Family Consecration has published a new, illustrated book on the Rosary that is filled with visual and written aids to the beloved Marian devotion. The book, “Portraits of the Rosary,” lives up to its title, with  more than 200 inspiring illustrations and quotes from Sacred Scripture, one for every Hail Mary of the 20 mysteries of the Rosary.
The book was compiled by Apostolate for Family Consecration co-founder Jerome F. Coniker, with illustrations by Charles Jaskiewicz, well known for his work on the theological illustrations in the “Apostolate’s Family Catechism.”
The 20 mysteries of the Rosary include the 15 Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious mysteries, plus the five “Mysteries of Light” or “Luminous Mysteries” proposed by Pope John Paul II in his 2002 Apostolic Letter, “The Rosary of the Virgin Mary.”
“Portraits of the Rosary” also contains an excerpt from the Apostolic Letter, along with instructions on how to pray the Rosary and references to the “Catechism of the Catholic Church” for further insight into the mysteries.
“Portraits of the Rosary” was inspired by the late Holy Father’s observation that “Contemplating the scenes of the Rosary in union with Mary is a means of learning from her to ‘read’ Christ, to discover His secrets and to understand His message.” (“The Rosary of the Virgin Mary,” Section 14)
The Scriptural passages accompanying each illustration and each Hail Mary also follow Pope John Paul II’s emphasis on the importance of having “…a Biblical foundation and greater depth to our meditation” by accompanying each mystery with “…the proclamation of a related Biblical passage.” (“The Rosary of the Virgin Mary,” Section 30)
“Portraits of the Rosary” also includes a selection of other prayers for daily recitation, a list of daily themes for prayer, the Saint Joseph Chaplet and an essay on the First Saturday devotion.
“Portraits of the Rosary” is available from the Apostolate for Family Consecration by calling 1-800-77-FAMILY or by visiting their online store at familyland.org. Single copies are $5.95 plus shipping and handling. Quantity discounts are available.
Founded in 1975 by Jerry Coniker and late wife Gwen, the Apostolate for Family Consecration is a pontifically approved international association striving to sanctify families by consecrating them to the Holy Family, and by teaching the truths of the Faith in the spirit of Pope John Paul II.
The Family Apostolate reaches families in Asia, Europe, Africa, and North and South America through FamilyCatechism.com, Familyland Television Network, the Consecration in Truth Catechetical Series, the Apostolate’s Internet Library and its events at Catholic Familyland.
