ACS received the first call asking for its expertise merely an hour after the earthquake the evening of Tuesday 12th January. The British Government needed to get around 80 people – made up of firefighters, search and rescue teams, and aid workers – down to Port-au-Prince as soon as possible and, despite snow on the runways at Gatwick, a chartered B757 left on the Wednesday. Since that first flight, Air Charter Service has operated more than 75 further charters from all over Europe and the United States. ACS had up to three company representatives in the region at any one time to help coordinate its efforts. Not only was Air Charter Service been heavily involved in the actual logistics, but their Charity Committee made a promise to match every penny that the company’s employees donated to the various Haiti charity appeals. In total ACS raised three thousand pounds to further help the Haitians. Christine Leach, Company Secretary, Treasurer and head of the Charity Committee commented: “What happened in the Caribbean was truly shocking, and we are committed to helping the poor victims in as many ways, as a company, as we can”. Air Charter Service’s 4,000+ charters each year are performed on all types of aircraft and range from small private jet flights and commercial airliners to cargo charters. # # # Air Charter Service is an air charter broker with a global network of 10 offices in North America, Europe, Africa, CIS, the Middle East and Asia.
