Feb. 24, 2010 - PRLog -- Conflict is an inevitable part of business life when the issues individuals care
about appear incompatible. The effect of not managing conflict can have an
enormous emotional and economic cost.

Research shows that if unhealthy conflict goes unresolved for too long, partners
and staff are likely to leave the company or use valuable time to search for
alternatives. Interestingly enough, this research applies to executive teams and
implies that the role of the CEO in managing conflict at the executive level is

The ability to manage conflict is a critical skill in today's workplace: many
organizations have identified it as a core competency for managers and
executives at all levels.

conflict quickly, effectively and forever! The Harris Group program is designed
specifically for business partners or teams that are struggling with potentially
dangerous conflict and can’t move forward.

T.A.C.K.L.E. – Five Steps:
>>Truth - finding your own truth by understanding yourself and being able to
speak that truth so that others will and can hear you.

>>Trust - a critical component to any relationship. Without trust, there is

>>Alignment, when forces come together behind a single purpose, even if
they do not agree with each other, they can be ‘aligned’; move together
toward a common interest.

>>Action, “there is only one way to learn, it’s through action. Everything you
need to know you have learned through your experience.”1 Action is the
integration of the new behaviours of Truth, Trust and Alignment through a
staged program that will move participants from unconscious incompetent
to unconscious competent.

The three kinds of conflict:
1. Task Conflict: this type of conflict refers to disagreements about the
job or work to be performed. The conflict comes from the different
opinions and viewpoints of the work/team participants as to how the work
should be performed. When handled properly, this type of conflict is
healthy for the team and the organization as it can result in more informed
and better overall results.

2. Process Conflict: refers to differences among team members when
they disagree with how they should work together. This type of conflict
needs to be addressed but it is more in the area of opinions and beliefs
around how work should be done.

3. Relationship Conflict: this type of conflict centres on who is to blame
and who is right and who is wrong. Relationship conflict pits one person
against another person or group. Mistrust and great emotional tensions
arise. This is the most dangerous kind of conflict and the type we refer to
when we use the term ‘dangerous conflict’. It is critical to deal with
relationship conflict as the costs of not dealing with it, both individual costs
(stress, health, relationships) and company costs (staff absenteeism, staff
turn over, financial and legal) are enormous.

T.A.C.K.L.E techniques offer great benefits when applied to all types of
conflict. All types of conflict need to be managed to ensure they are beneficial to
the individuals, teams and organization.

The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when
we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it
is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are

truer answers. M. Scott Peck
