Feb. 22, 2010 - PRLog -- In 1990, Gordon Greenleaf, was nearly broke and just out of work. He had ridden the bus past Trash & Treasure many times and thought, “That’s a cool place. Wacky and unusual, but cool.” The little antique shop was in transition from it’s previous owners since 1947 to its new ones. He plucked up the courage to walk in and found that the new owners really didn’t know much about retail. But he had years of experience selling furniture and cameras and had managed a corporate furniture store.
Long story short, he offered to work there for a minimum wage and the ability to put some of his own merchandise in the shop. With only $200 in inventory and a lot of hard work, he now owns the Antique Warehaus/Trash & Treasure, and has expanded the inventory to include new modern hardwood furniture and decor. Turningleaf Furniture is the new furniture side, incorporated under the same roof.
The building could still use an overhaul, but keeping the prices low is Gordon’s prime directive. Another way he keeps prices low is opening the store only 5 hours a day. At first some people balk at this, but it allows Gordon to do all his own buying, delivering, and 'sweeping up at the end of the night', as he says. All designed to keep prices down. That's a big thing nowadays.  Turningleaf Furniture also offers free layaway to budget minded shoppers and those who are waiting for their house to close or new apartment to become available.
The store has a very easy to follow website that shows all of the great furniture on offer,
and customers can window shop online, and call or come by the shop for further details.
There are even some smaller items available online through PayPal.
All  in all, Gordon has managed to beat the odds, staying in business while many of the other competitive shops have not.  How? Belief. A belief in himself, his abilities, and his
resourcefulness. "When the going gets tough, the tough get creative", says Mr. Greenleaf,
who likes to spell his name GOrdon GREENleaf, to emphasize what we need to do as a country and a world. "We need a partnership with nature, not a war." Turning over a new leaf in 2010, TurningleafFurniture.com hopes to do just that. And save us money along the way.
Who would've thought that a small Mom & Pop antique shop could become a prime mover in the new furniture business? GOrdon GREENleaf did.
