GW's Homeland Security Policy Institute Names New Steering Committee Members

The George Washington University Homeland Security Policy Institute (HSPI) today announced the appointment of 14 new steering committee members.
 
Feb. 22, 2010 - PRLog -- WASHINGTON —The George Washington University Homeland Security Policy Institute (HSPI) today announced the appointment of 14 new steering committee members.  The bipartisan cadre includes two former governors, a former secretary of Homeland Security, a former ambassador to NATO, three former assistants to the president for Homeland Security, a former administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the chief of the Metropolitan Police Department (D.C.), the Chief of the City of Alexandria (Va.) Fire Department, a counterterrorism and human rights policy expert with Amnesty International USA and two Washington “legends”—each with half a century’s experience at the epicenter of their fields.  

“The GW Homeland Security Policy Institute is truly privileged to welcome this extraordinary group to our steering committee,” said Frank Cilluffo, director of HSPI.  “Their continued commitment to public service is exemplary.  Our newest members bring to the table invaluable experience that, together with the expertise and insights of their colleagues already on board, will serve to challenge our assumptions as HSPI strives to sharpen its work and strengthen its impact moving forward.”

The steering committee is a distinguished group of leaders who serve in their individual capacities and provide strategic direction to help guide HSPI’s policy and research efforts.    

The following individuals have been appointed:

•   The Hon. David Abshire, president and CEO, The Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress; former special counselor to the president and former Ambassador to NATO

•   The Hon. Charles Allen, former under secretary for intelligence and analysis, Department of Homeland Security; former assistant director of Central Intelligence for Collection, Central Intelligence Agency

•   The Hon. Clark Kent Ervin, director, Homeland Security Program, The Aspen Institute; former inspector general, Department of Homeland Security and Department of State

•   Mr. Vince Flynn, author

•   Mr. Leon Fuerth, former assistant to the vice president for National Security Affairs; research professor of international affairs, Elliott School of International Affairs, The George Washington University

•   The Hon. Cathy Lanier, chief, Metropolitan Police Department, Washington, D.C.

•   Mr. Thomas Parker, policy director, Terrorism, Counterterrorism, and Human Rights, Amnesty International USA

•   The Hon. R. David Paulison, former administrator, Federal Emergency Management Agency

•   The Hon. Charles Robb, former governor and former senator of the Commonwealth of Virginia

•   The Hon. Thomas Ridge, former secretary of Homeland Security; former governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

•   The Hon. Adam Thiel, chief, City of Alexandria (Virginia) Fire Department

•   The Hon. Frances Fragos Townsend, former assistant to the president for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism

•   The Hon. Kenneth Wainstein, former assistant to the president for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism

•   Dr. John F. Williams, provost and vice president for health affairs, The George Washington University
