Feb. 22, 2010 - PRLog -- Showroom New York, a showroom funded by the state of New York whose aim is to promote “New York Made” fashion, has a new group of young, contemporary designers for the fall/winter 2010 season.

Showroom New York held its designer jury in early January 2010. The designers were judged based on quality, innovation and marketability by a panel of industry professionals. Hundreds of young designers submitted their designs for the jury, only the following ten were accepted into the showroom for the fall/winter 2010 season:

Acceptance into the showroom includes sales representation through the fall/winter 2010 season. In addition to representation, Showroom New York offers business and marketing support as well as sourcing referrals for local production.

“We introduce them to as many sources as they need and incubate them so that they can move on to full-time showrooms” said Andy Ward, acting executive director and director of sourcing and designer development. “They develop relationships, and we help them out with technical assistance any time.”

“I’m excited about working with Showroom New York for a second season,” said May Kosaka, Mothe designer. “Working with this showroom is a fantastic opportunity and will be an integral part of getting Mothe to the forefront of women’s fashion. Working with Showroom New York has been great; they’re completely dedicated to the concept of nurturing young designers in New York City.”

Eva Khurshid, The Hilbert Project, and Pamela Ptak are among several designers showing their fall/winter 2010 collection at the ‘Made in New York’ section at February 2010 Coterie trade show in New York City. The ‘Made in New York’ section was set up by Showroom New York for designers that produce in New York; making it more affordable to show their lines in a major trade show.

About Showroom New York:
Showroom New York is the first of its kind in New York City. The concept of the showroom is to incubate and nurture young talent in a non profit spirit. Motivated by its mission to support apparel manufacturing in New York City, The Garment Industry Development Corporation (GIDC) launched Showroom New York in January of 2008. Showroom New York and the GIDC's efforts are contributing to ensure the Garment District will be there for the Anna Sui, Elie Tahari and Marc Jacobs of tomorrow.  One of the main requirements for submission into the showroom is manufacturing in New York. Without local apparel manufacturing, New York will cease to be one of the fashion capitals of the world.
