Feb. 19, 2010 - PRLog -- The Easter long weekend is a great time to prepare for summer, with many people choosing to undertake some home DIY. Aside from the usual repairs and home improvements which are popular over Easter, it’s also a good time to get the garden prepped for summer.

A well designed garden, no matter how large or small, can not only be beautiful, but also productive.
You don't have to be a landscaping wizard to create a beautiful garden; you just need to decide how best to use this space for your needs:

•   If you love spending time in your garden, why not install a terrace or patio?
•   If you have young children or grandchildren, think about installing an outside play area
•   If you love to cook, or are interested in reducing the cost of the weekly shop, a kitchen garden can provide all the vegetables you need and create a wonderful aroma
•   If you are interested in wildlife watching, create a natural habitat for small animals, birds and insects

Many gardens incorporate a number of these elements into one space. Once you know what you want, it is easier to set about turning your garden into a paradise.

But before you go all out and ring up a tree’s worth of bills at your local garden centre this spring, check the fine print in your house insurance policy. Many policies do not cover garden furniture or ornaments, so you will have to get extra cover for these items, or make sure they cannot be carried away at night.

Prudential covers up to £1,000 for the cost of landscaping to your garden if you need to claim after a theft, damage or vandalism. So if you don’t already hold a Prudential household insurance policy for your home, consider coming to us for a renewal this spring. It’s a great way to start the summer.
