The featured guest speaker is Pat Farenga, President of Holt Associates and author of The Beginner’s Guide To Homeschooling and Teach Your Own: The John Holt Book of Homeschooling. “OHEN conventions are a great way to find out about homeschooling in Oregon, and connect with other parents and educators about education options.” said Virginia Lenneville, vendor coordinator.  “We are expecting over 150 vendors and workshop presenters during this fun-filled day.”  She added.

Other speakers include OHEN president Tara Atkinson, Karen Anderson (Oregon Destination Imagination), Frank Graham (Oregon Historical Society), Lisa Mitchell (Stagecoach Theatre Arts School), Rosalyn Newhouse (Village Home Education Resource Center) and Kristine Parker (Allegro Music Academy) among others (a complete list of workshop presenters is available through the OHEN (www.ohen.org) website.)

OHEN's 11th Convention will include 4 sessions, with over 70 choices of workshops for children, teens and adults. “Workshop topics range from single-parent homeschooling, classical education curriculums, working with your child's strengths, auditory language processing disorders, how to apply to colleges, in addition to the activity-oriented workshops of jewelry making, chemistry, theater and much more.” said Stephanie Nystrom, workshop coordinator.  "The Magic, Comedy and Illusion" of William Scott Anderson will close the convention that Saturday night.

"The conference is a wonderful opportunity to be re-inspired and acquaint myself with a variety of educational approaches," says longtime homeschooling mother, Trina Strahl.

Free morning coffee is available and sack lunches ($8.00 adult/ $5.50 child) may be pre-ordered with online registration at www.ohen.org.

OHEN supports the right of all homeschoolers to educate their children with as little government intervention as possible.  Celebrating the diversity within the homeschooling community, OHEN welcomes any person without regard to educational philosophy, religion, creed, race, color, gender, or ethnic or national origin. The OHEN helpline and information phone number is 503-321-5166.  “You do not need to be an OHEN member to attend the convention.” coordinator Diana Mcintosh pointed out.  "The Oregon Home Education Network is a nonprofit organization that works with support groups and libraries to provide support, resources and information to homeschooling families." OHEN president Tara Atkinson is available for interviews (volunteer@ohen.org ) about the upcoming March 20 convention or other home schooling topics.  “Educating parents on how they can home-educate their children is our passion.”  She recently commented.  “There has been a tremendous increase in interest in home schooling, and we are expecting a record turnout at the convention in March.”  She added.
