Feb. 17, 2010 - PRLog -- NASHVILLE-BASED PET-TAO PET FOODS GAINS NEW DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL

NASHVILLE, TN (Feb. 17, 2010) – Pet-Tao Pet Foods, which combines Western nutritional science with Eastern food therapy in an all-natural dog food, has signed an agreement for Holistic Pet Source to distribute the company’s products in a six-state area.

“This is a major step forward for us to reach a broader consumer base,” said Dr. Casey Damron, explaining that Pet-Tao Pet Foods is presently sold through a network of 75 partner veterinarians.

Nashville-based Holistic Pet Source (www.holisticpetsource.com) is a wholesale distributor of natural foods, treats, supplements and body care products for dogs and cats.   The company sells to retailers with a commercial storefront location, breeders and kennels throughout Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.

Pet-Tao Pet Foods (www.pettao.com), located in the Nashville area, was launched this past summer by Dr. Damron (with White Oak Animal Hospital in Fairview, TN) and Dr. Marc Smith (with Natchez Trace Vet Clinic in Franklin,TN).  After completing training in traditional Chinese veterinary medicine and conducting extensive research, the veterinarians founded Pet-Tao Pet Foods to provide their clients (dogs in this case) a convenient, all-natural nutritional product that contributes to better health and longer life.

“With Pet-Tao Pet Foods, we are combining the strengths of Western Nutritional Science and the time-proven theories of Eastern Medicine, primarily Eastern Food Therapy,” Dr. Smith said.

East Meets West
Western Nutritional Science has set scientifically-proven standards for nutrient profiles and food safety, while correlating nutritional adequacy with disease prevalence.  However, the Western world is primarily focused on delivering a convenient, useable product to the consumer by balancing the availability and cost of ingredients, while meeting minimal nutritional standards.  These decisions are often made without regard to the effect on the pet’s body.  Unfortunately, most commercial pet foods consist primarily of grains and preservatives, contributing to many common pet health problems, including obesity, tumors, vomiting, diarrhea, skin allergies and more.

In contrast, in Eastern Food Therapy, food items are chosen and combined in ways to heal the body as well as keep it in balance.  The focus is on the effect the food has on the body after it is eaten. Each food item is described as having energetic properties such as warming, cooling, or flavors that act on the body in certain predictable yet different ways.
The Pet-Tao Way
Pet-Tao products are made from human-grade ingredients, consisting primarily of muscle and organ meat (beef, chicken, turkey and fish), vegetables and culinary herbals. It is all-natural with added vitamins and minerals and has no artificial preservatives or flavors.
Pet-Tao offers products in both a pasteurized and raw form. According to Eastern Food Therapy principles, there are advantages and disadvantages to each form.  For instance, the pasteurized form is ideal for older pets as less energy is expended or lost by the animal in carrying out the digestion process.  The pasteurization process limits the number of harmful bacteria while maintaining the food’s nutritional value. The raw form, on the other hand, is more suited to the young animal. Energetically, raw food is cooler and counteracts or balances the excessive heat, vibrancy and hyperactivity which you commonly see in younger animals.
