Feb. 15, 2010 - PRLog -- Peggy Kennedy is living proof that there IS a 'happily ever after". She grew up during the turbulent 60s, when mental illness was a secret safely guarded by families that had to deal with the daily terrors of psychosis. Back when medical treatments resembled Boris Korloff films. Back when electroshock therapy was as common as Xanax is today. Ms. Kennedy and her siblings grew up in such an environment and managed, somehow, to retain a sense of humor and family bonds strong enough to endure. Her story is not so much about mental illness as it is about those bonds. It is about the love and humor and utter determination that brought them through their ordeals, and the amazing grace she managed to find when she finally reached 'happily ever after'. This was a tight crew. She and her sibling supported each other beyond their mother's mental illness; they lost one sister to murder and a brother to AIDS. Enough tragedy to break even the best of family ties. Not so in this family. Their courage and humor were their saving grace, even when it seemed as if there would never be any light at the end of their very dark tunnel.

Among the accolades Approaching Neverland has been awarded thus far are the Mom's Choice Awards® which named the book among the best in family-friendly media, products and services. The book was also named a Finalist in the 2009 Next Generation Indie Book Awards and won first prize for non-fiction from the 2008 San Francisco Writer's Conference.

Join Ms. Kennedy for a reading and book signing at Books, Inc., 1760 Fourth Street, Berkeley, CA on February 18th at 7:00 PM.
