Feb. 12, 2010 - PRLog -- Massillon, OH–With unemployment and poverty levels on the rise throughout the nation, the prospect of presenting a workshop to the Bridges Out of Poverty program at OPEN M in downtown Akron was a welcome opportunity for professional résumé writers Barb Kanney of ABC Distinguished Documents of Massillon, Ohio and Betty Parker of Parker Typing Service of Munroe Falls, Ohio. They were invited to present a résumé and job search workshop entitled Winning Job Search Tools to the disadvantaged in this program on Friday, January 29, 2010.

The workshop included Six Components of a Job Search focusing on résumés, cover letters, use of a job search contact log, networking, interview preparation, and the post interview thank you letter. Job seekers were taught some techniques they never knew before such as the elevator pitch. They were also introduced to networking cards and body language to avoid in an interview. Instruction on how to effectively conduct a job search using these tools concluded the workshop.

“This was an awesome presentation and I even learned some things I didn’t know before.” program coordinator, Sheila Sims, said. “I’m sure the people in this program will benefit greatly from the knowledge you shared with them today.”

Bridges Out of Poverty is part of the OPEN M Family Development program which works to provide a team support system for people in poverty so they can begin to move out of poverty. Barb and Betty agree, “This was an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on these people’s lives.”

Barb Kanney and Betty Parker have combined experience of 25 years writing résumés and offer a full suite of professional résumé writing and coaching services to individuals from entry level to executive levels.
