Feb. 11, 2010 - PRLog -- Ann Arbor, Michigan --  Tom McPhee, Executive Director of the World Animal Awareness Society (WA2S), recently returned to the USA from Haiti where he was filming relief efforts by various local and international animal welfare organizations.  Now, one month after the earthquake, WA2S is beginning to release photo and video stories of the human/animal interactions that are taking place after this extreme catastrophe.

While in Haiti, Tom stayed with the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti (ARCH) at their base camp located within the Sonopi Industrial Center next to the Port Au Prince airport.   His team leader was Marcos Polanco of the SODOPREC@.  The ARCH team consists of IFAW, WSPA, and local and international animal welfare volunteers.  Not only are these groups assisting in animal relief, but also providing a service to the human population. The animal care they are providing helps minimize the spread of disease and increased reproduction that may be occurring in the animal population at this time, as well as improve the general well-being of the animal population.

SODOPREC@ - SODOPRECA, Directed by Marcos Polanco, is the Dominican Society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

ARCH –  The Animal Relief Coalition of Haiti (ARCH) consists of more than a dozen of the world's leading animal welfare organizations.  The team was created to bring aid to as many animals and in as short a time as possible.

About the World Animal Awareness Society - World Animal Awareness Society is a non-profit organization incorporated in the state of Michigan for the purpose of filming contemporary human-animal interactions at the point of intersection, to be shared with the world through broadcast relationships in the form of compelling documentaries and TV shows, and seeding educational institutions with the raw “intellectual property” to be used for study-analysis as well as to mark a point in time for permanent archive. The mission of the World Animal Awareness Society is to focus a lens on a wide range of human-animal interactions in order to have a filmed record of our behavior in expectation that it will lead to greater human awareness.  Visit the World Animal Awareness Society online today to make a donation in support of our efforts (http://www.WA2S.org).
