What happening?

Sunday is going to provide a great game for football fans. We have two teams in the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints that have stellar, world-class offenses along with their opportunistic, ball-hungry defenses. Both teams are led by the best quarterback in their respective conference.

This for sure colts doesn't need Reggie Wayne or Dallas Clark to have an explosive offense, which we observed in the AFC Championship game. Even if you put a shutdown corner like Darrell Revis and double team Dallas Clark, Peyton Manning still has reliable enough targets in Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie that he doesn't need his two superstars to have an effective, if not explosive offense.

The Saints, on the other hand, have more offensive firepower. Although the Saints may not have anyone who is playing at the caliber of a Reggie Wayne at wide receiver, they still have a long line of guys like Marcus Colston, Lance Moore, Jeremy Shockey, or Devery Henderson who can all still be play-makers for quarterback Drew Brees. I don't think the Saints totally opened up their playbook against the Vikings, which could spell trouble for an injured Colts squad potentially missing two defensive starters.

Both teams have surprisingly strong defenses. The Colts’ defense has been sort of under the radar for much of the season. The team, though, has put up great numbers (like allowing 17 points or less in 12 of their 18 games), despite missing one of their key players in Bob Sanders. However, the Saints have a bunch of ball hawks on the defensive side of things. They had the third most interceptions in the NFL this season and fifth most fumbles recovered. The Saints don’t have names like “Freeney” or “Mathis”, but they have players who can get to the ball and knock it away.

There may be more than a few people who are having a tough time hashing out their loyalties for Super Bowl XLIV. They'll be watching a pair of quarterbacks, though, who are about as decisive as it gets.

Peyton Manning faces his hometown team, once quarterbacked by his father, as the Indianapolis Colts try for their second title in four years Sunday at Miami in a matchup with Drew Brees and a New Orleans Saints team making its Super Bowl debut.

If Manning can outduel Brees in what has the potential to be one of the highest-scoring Super Bowls, many fans in New Orleans will certainly be celebrating their hometown hero's accomplishment.

The Super Bowl signifies a bittersweet time for a lot of Americans. Sure, it's the biggest game of the year, but it's also the official end of football season.
