Oakwood Veneer 2009 Wood Veneer Design Contest Winner Announced.

Feb. 5, 2010 - PRLog -- After reviewing all of the entries for it's 2009 Wood Veneer Design Contest, Oakwood Veneer has announced a winner, says Peter Rodgers, Oakwood's owner.

"It was a tough decision, but there was one that did stand out," Rodgers said. "Schoenstein and Company from Benicia, California built a stunning pipe organ that used three different wood veneer species. All of our employees were extremely impressed with the craftsmanship."

The pipe organ and surrounding casework have been installed in the prestigious Julliard School of Music in New York. Veneers were all acquired through Oakwood Veneer and included Karelian Birch, Quarter-sawn White Oak, and Honduran Mahogany Veneer species.

The 2009 Wood Veneer Design Contest was announced in November and called for woodworkers to send in pictures of their most visually striking designs that made use of wood veneer.

“The organ stood out to us because it really made the best use of the material,” said Oakwood employee and technical expert Jay White. “It required several components including small to large panels and intricate pieces of varying shapes. It had a very crisp and clean design that is sure to withstand the test of time.”

Oakwood is in the process of updating their website’s gallery page, and will be including the Schoenstein organ as well as other contest honorable mentions.

Oakwood Veneer will be holding another Wood Veneer Design Contest at the end of 2010. The blog will be updated with details at that time.
