Phoenix Historic Home Tour

Neighborly encounters south of McDowell, in the "hidden" portion of the Coronado neighborhood, inspired the upcoming home tour theme Undiscovered Coronado.

Feb. 4, 2010 - PRLog -- As one of the largest and most diverse neighborhoods in central Phoenix, Coronado remains full of little known treasures, such as February's home tour destination. On Sunday February 28th 2010, a darling block of 1930s homes, one bonus tree house, and a special historic church will be opening their doors.

Make History
The Coronado home tour will feature two "firsts." February 28th will mark the first home tour ever in the Brentwood Historic District and the first time the historic Brentwood church is open to the public. The Church of God in Christ will generously open their doors to the public and display their recent renovation and preservation efforts. Built by the Church of Latter Day Saints in 1947 and now home to one of the largest African American denominations in the state, this majestic building conveys much cultural, religious, and architectural significance.

Be Inspired
Brentwood neighbors will demonstrate how much good can come from organizing as a block: shady streetscapes, increased safety, and the unique sense of community that is Coronado. In addition to sharing the intricate brickwork and beautiful historic details of their homes, Brentwood neighbors will share their stories of perseverance as they transformed neglected houses into wonderful homes.

Support Sustainable Communities
A portion of each tour ticket sold will go directly toward renovating Virginia Park. Another undiscovered neighborhood spot, the pocket park at 15th Street and Virginia will be transformed into a real treasure over the next year thanks to seed money from the 2010 tour. The remainder of your home tour ticket purchase will support the neighborhood association's operating costs and other neighborhood improvement projects.

Celebrate in the Street
No trolley or pedicab needed! This tour will be a walking tour of a single neighborhood block. There will be music, local food, and craft vendors in the blocked-off street, and vintage cars on display. Support local businesses, meet your neighbors, and spend time as a family. There will even be convenient (free!) parking thanks to the Church of God in Christ.

Purchase home tour tickets online at http://www.HomeTour2010.com for $12.50 or $15.00 (cash or checks only) on the day of the event Sunday, February 28, at 18th Street and East Willetta Street, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
