Also they prevent you from adopting traditional methods with their possible side effects.

With much advancement in medical technologies, conventional methods of birth control have given way to newer and efficient birth control techniques that also ensure the reproductive health of individuals. These methods give enough room to couples to decide about the time when they would like to don the responsibility of parenthood.

There are Behavioral, Hormonal, Barrier, Spermicidal and Permanent methods of Birth control to choose from. Selecting the best method to suit your individual needs is a tough task as various things have to be dealt with like effectiveness, comfort of using, individual preferences, side-effects, etc. So it is advisable to consult a medical practitioner before adopting any of the methods, especially if the method involves some complications.

Below is the list of Birth Control Methods:

Behavioral:

•   Abstinence – It implies not having intercourse at all, Most effective and prevents STD
•   The Rhythm Method- involves abstaining from intercourse

Hormonal:

This method suggests use of birth control Pills, Shots, ring and implant to prevent pregnancy and may consists of:
•   The Pill - Combined Pill- Mini-pill
•   Progestogen only Pill (POP)
•   Depo-Provera Shots

Barrier:

Barrier Method consists of the following:
•   Condoms

•   Dental Dams
•   Diaphragms & Cervical Caps

Permanent:

•   Tubal Ligation in Women
•   Vasectomy in Males

In addition to the above mentioned methods, the latest method to join the list is Intrauterine Device, IUD. In this method, the sperms are prevented from reaching the fallopian tube and thus restrict fertilization of egg. The process is performed by a physician and may result in some complications.

Withdrawal, Natural family planning and Emergency Contraception are other methods of Birth Control. It must be noted that, barring a few, all the above mentioned methods do not guarantee any prevention from sexually transmitted diseases (STD). so it is better to take right guidance from a medical doctor.

As the problem of pregnancy particularly bothers women, there are a number of Women care clinics that provide the much needed advice and directions to women so that they can stay healthy and pan their parenthood.
