Young people aged 14 – 19 years old living in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham will shortly benefit from changes in the delivery of information, advice and guidance (IAG) services. A company with over a decade of helping young people into jobs and training, and currently supporting more than 300,000 young people across the country, had been appointed by the Council to run their Connexions services. Prospects Services, a leading education, employment and training specialist and the largest national provider of Connexions services in the UK will start work in the borough this month. Councillor Rocky Gill, Cabinet Member for Education and Children’s Wellbeing, said; “We are looking forward to working in partnership with Prospects to deliver the best support and first class advice and guidance for young people in the borough on education, training courses and what jobs to apply for. Our young people deserve the best start in life to develop the skills to achieve their full potential.” Barking & Dagenham will be amongst eleven other London boroughs receiving IAG services from Prospects. The service will help young people to make important life-changing careers and training decisions, as well as providing advice on wider issues such as health, volunteering and personal development. Prospects Operations Director for East London, Judith Denyer, said; “We are delighted at our success. We have been delivering IAG services in the surrounding boroughs, for a number of years and look forward to working with Barking and Dagenham Council to achieve its vision for its young people, families and communities.” Together with contracts already being run in London, Prospects will work closely to achieve the council’s vision to transform the way in which young people’s services are delivered in the borough. The new Prospects’ contract for the delivery of Connexions Services in Barking and Dagenham will begin on 18th January, 2010 for the next two years, with a view to be extended for a further period subject to performance and the continued availability of funding. # # # Prospects is one of the United Kingdom's leading providers of education, training and guidance services.
