It Job Support In South LondonThe ‘Response to Redundancy’ programme which is operating across South London, is offering a new programme of IT training aimed at individuals who have lost their jobs, those at risk of unemployment, and anyone who wants to update their skills.
The training will be free to job seekers who are currently unemployed, but is also open to anyone living in the area. Most of the courses will be offered at the Prospects Professional Training and Consultancy (PPTC) Centre in Croydon – in partnership with Croydon College to help boost skills for individuals and help them into new jobs and to develop their potential. Since September 2009, the ‘Response to Redundancy’ programme has helped people across the south of the capital, courses currently on offer include: 09.02.10 Improving Word Skills - ICT Course 10.02.10 Creative Word - ICT Course 16.02.10 Excel Everyday - ICT Course 19.02.10 Presenting and Pictures in PowerPoint - ICT Course 23.02.10 Speed Data basing - ICT Course The Response to Redundancy Programme has already made a real difference to people seeking work and training opportunities. One recent success story involved local resident Sue Denton, who was made redundant after working for a contract leasing company as an administrator/ Sue’s said: “The courses were great, I felt relaxed and not afraid to ask for help. I really updated my skills and knowledge” Prospect’s PPTC’s ‘Response to Redundancy’ programme is available in Bexley, Bromley, Croydon, Greenwich, Kingston, Lewisham, Merton, Richmond and Sutton, and all training is based on individual needs. As well as IT training, the programme offers workshops to explore alternative career paths, training in work readiness, CV writing and interview techniques, counselling skills and – for those considering a career change – accredited post-16 teacher training programmes. Managers under notice of redundancy or made redundant within the last six months can access PPTC’s management workshop programme including ‘job winning skills’ and tailored development support. Registrations for these opportunities are ongoing, with workshops continuously running.
