Paper Jewellery! Origami Meets the 21st century.

Feb. 2, 2010 - PRLog -- Paper jewellery is the new art form that as been refined and developed by the artist Liz Hamman so makers-online are pleased to announce that Liz has joined their website to showcase her original products.

The Japanese word "Origami" is a compound of two smaller Japanese words Ori meaning
"folding" and Kami meaning "paper" the goal of this art is to create a representation of an object and Liz has achieved this. With her artistic skills she produces fine pieces of jewellery made entirely from paper.

Liz Hamman is a mixed media artist from Cheshire and has been designing and making original artwear since completing her fine arts training in 2007 where she specialized in sculpture and textiles.

To create her pieces she makes use of many paper products such as unwanted books, maps and comics which are used to create items such as her "map of Torquay" pendant, or "comic book pendant"  she also uses the other printed works to great effect.

All pieces are made by Liz and often she makes use of other recycled natural materials to complement the paper jewellery that she produces.

Using various methods of folding,creasing, weaving or stacking she creates unique hand made jewellery that is original and fun to wear.

All the jewellery has been finished with a water based lacquer which makes it surprisingly durable. We wouldn't however advise wearing it while swimming or bathing or in the case of a bracelet, doing the washing up.

Liz says that a book can become a treasured item  and she hopes her Origami jewellery will become  as much treasured by their owners as well.
