African American Teen Super Beings Take Center Stage in the New Fantasy Novel, ASLEEP

(Atlanta, GA)
Asleep, a fantasy story about African American teen super beings, is a new Young Adult novel vying for attention in the swelling demand for variety in black titles. Increased demand for a broader range of relatable African American material is fueled by parents, teens and young adults. Traditionally popular genres like poetry, biographies, and street lit are expanding to include other genres like fantasy.

Asleep is book one in a fantasy trilogy that chronicles the adventures of Adisa Summers and her introduction to the secret world of super beings but the book works as a stand-alone title as well. The author, Wendy Raven McNair, was inspired to write the novel for very personal reasons.

“My teenage daughter enjoys this type of story but I couldn’t find any that were age appropriate with characters who reflect what she looks like in the starring roles. There aren’t very many fantasy books with African American female leads and I saw this as an opportunity to create characters that resembled her and other girls like her."

To increase her public exposure, McNair was featured in Cobb Life magazine’s January/February Best of Cobb 2010 issue, has BORDERS book signings, and participates in book festivals and other literary events.

Upcoming book signing events for McNair includes:
Jan 30, 1pm – BORDERS (Parkway Pointe 3101 Cobb Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30339)
Feb 6, 2pm – Urban Grind coffeehouse (962 Marietta St., Atlanta, GA 30318)
Feb 13, 1pm – BORDERS (The Avenue 4475 Roswell Rd, Marietta, GA 30062)

The author notes, "Awake, book two of the trilogy, will be released sometime this year so check wendyravenmcnair.com for updates."

McNair’s novel, Asleep, is available at amazon.com. For more information on the author, her books, and much more visit wendyravenmcnair.com.
