Kcancer Hosts Forums on Cancer Prevention
February 4th is World Cancer Day. The theme of World Cancer Day (2010) is “Cancer Can Be Prevented Too”. Kcancer hosts forums to address cancer prevention relevant issues.
• Stop tobacco use and avoid exposure to second-hand smoke
• Have a healthy diet
• Maintain regular exercise
• Maintain a healthy weight
• Limit alcohol consumption
• Avoid excessive sun exposure
• Protect against cancer-causing infections
About 90% lung cancer is closely related to tobacco smoking. Cigarette smoke contains about 4,000 chemical agents, among them more than 60 carcinogens have been identified. In addition, many of these substances, such as carbon monoxide, tar, arsenic, and lead, are poisonous and toxic to the human body. Prevention or discontinuation of tobacco use is the best way to prevent lung cancer. This is everybody’s responsibility and all of us need to work together to reduce the preventable disease.
It is estimated that roughly one-third of all cancer deaths may be diet related. What you eat can help you and make you strong, but it can also hurt you. Many of the common foods found in grocery stores or organic markets contain cancer-fighting properties, from the antioxidants that neutralize the damage caused by free radicals to the powerful phytochemicals. But some food may have cancer-causing potential.
Measures of maintaining regular exercise, keeping a healthy weight, limiting alcohol consumption, avoiding excessive sun exposure, and protecting against cancer-causing infections etc., all have impact on preventing cancer and raising quality of life for cancer patients. It is important for all of us to involve in the discussion on these issues, to arm ourselves with cancer prevention knowledge, to protect ourselves from the deadly diseases.
