Jan. 26, 2010 - PRLog -- Foreign markets for US-made goods are far stronger than suggested by monthly trade balance statistics claims "Export Outlook 2010-2014", a newly completed analysis by TechFile Forecasting, a private economics research firm.

While Export Outlook does not dispute that the US consistently imports more than it exports, it points out that the difference is less important than news accounts typically suggest. “Despite the overall trade imbalance, there is strong and growing demand for US-made goods,” said  James Wilson, the study’s director. “Each of the markets we examined offers opportunities for US companies to grow by developing the export side of their business.”

In Export Outlook TechFile Forecasting examined import requirements for 500 mostly technology-oriented products by 70 countries and economic regions. It found that even in the face of steadily growing competition from China there was strong demand for US-made goods. “The opportunities are highly country-specific and product-specific” said Wilson. “For example, although a good deal has been written about the deteriorating economy in Japan, we identified more than 300 products for which demand for US-made products is robust.”

Over the next several months TechFile Forecasting will publish 70 country-specific editions of Export Outlook. In the meantime it has posted the TechFile Forecast™ tables that will appear in all 70 of those reports on the Scribd Store ($129 per country) at: www.scribd.com/TechFileForecasting

About TechFile Forecasts
Each TechFile Forecast™ is a table that shows five values for one country’s annual imports of one product, as defined by the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System. Values are in  current US dollars. One value is provided for 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. A defining characteristic of TechFile Forecasts is their use of baseline values reported by national taxation – customs – authorities, as opposed to theoretical values from econometric models or trade association surveys. Techfile Forecasts are professional works intended for use by those familiar with statistical forecasting methods.
