Jan. 20, 2010 - PRLog -- Travelers coming down to Key West Florida this spring break who are looking for a different type of Key West spring break vacation can now reserve a camping spot on the one-of-a-kind Dry Tortugas National Park camping trips. For a maximum of three nights, Dry Tortugas campers can enjoy a completely primitive camping experience on the remote Dry Tortugas islands, located 68 miles west of Key West in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico.

Camping in the Dry Tortugas, where the historic Civil War-era Fort Jefferson is located, provides campers with a camping experience like no other. With no electricity or running water on the islands, campers must bring everything they need to sustain themselves for the duration of their stay. This primitive-style camping is an exciting way to truly immerse yourself in a natural setting.

The Dry Tortugas are known for their excellent Key West snorkeling opportunities, year-round bird watching, and unique history. Travelers who visit the Dry Tortugas ( http://drytortugasinfo.com ) as campers can head out to the islands on one of two passenger ferries. On the first day of their trip, campers will be able to enjoy all the amenities provided on board these ferries included a 45-minute guided tour of Fort Jefferson ( http://drytortugasinfo.com ), snorkeling gear, breakfast, lunch, and the chance to speak with an expert naturalist.

After the first day, campers are on their own. Campers will have to bring all food, water, camping gear, and recreational gear. Campsites are located just south of Fort Jefferson. People camping on the Dry Tortugas enjoy swimming, sitting on the islands' natural beaches, snorkeling, bird watching, and star gazing in what is one of the clearest views of the night sky one can get anywhere in Florida.

Spring breakers typically come to Key West for the exciting nightlife and water sports, but nature-lovers are encouraged to try out the unforgettable experience of a Dry Tortugas camping trip or even a day trip.

"We don't typically get too many spring breakers but this year we are trying to put our camping trips out there so that people who are spending a week in Key West know that there one of the country's most unique national parks and camping sites are located just a quick boat ride from Key West," exclaims Dry Tortugas Information Center's office manager Abby Rhodes.

Camping spots in the Dry Tortugas are highly limited with spots for only six campers available on each of the two ferries. The Dry Tortugas Information Center is currently taking reservations for both camping and day trips from now to the summer. To find out more information on Dry Tortugas camping, availability, reservations and other Key West snorkeling ( http://drytortugasinfo.com ) opportunities, visit DryTortugasInfo.com or call the center directly at 1-877-243-2378.
