Egyptian archaeologists discovered the largest tomb at Saqqara, Egypt

Saqqara, the largest and most widely excavated ancient necropolis in Egypt, still has secrets to reveal.
 
Jan. 16, 2010 - PRLog -- A team of Egyptian archaeologists led by Dr. Zahi Hawass, chief of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, have said they has unearthed the largest known tomb yet discovered in the ancient necropolis of Sakkara (Saqqara), also known as the "City of the Dead."  to the south of Cairo.

The tomb is the largest and oldest yet discovered in Saqqara, The tomb dates back 2,500 years to the 26th Dynasty and contains important artifacts, including coffins, skeletons, pottery and mummified eagles.

Egypt's chief archaeologist, Zahi Hawass, who announced the discovery, said that early investigations showed that although the tomb dated back to the 26th Dynasty, it had been used several times.

Other excavations at Sakkara are continuing and Dr Hawass said the latest finds confirm that the site still contains undiscovered secrets
