Knockout Pest Control Match Up To $10,000 In Haitian Relief Contributions

OFFERS TO MATCH UP TO $10,000 IN HAITIAN RELIEF CONTRIBUTIONS

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Jan. 15, 2009) -- Long Island businessman Arthur Katz, president of Knockout Pest Control in Uniondale, has offered to match local contributions totaling up to $10,000 for earthquake relief in Haiti.

“As Haiti deals with overwhelming tragedy as a result of the massive earthquake on Jan. 12, I am asking for the support of the Long Island community in creating a large donation that will go much further than individual contributions in helping those affected,” Katz said in announcing his matching fund at a press conference with Nassau Legis. Kevan Abrahams.  “Little contributions can help to create a big gift.”  
Katz said he will match contributions made payable to the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC Haiti Relief Fund) that are sent to him.

The businessman said he would send his matching check along with any checks he receives to the American Jewish Distribution Committee (JDC Haiti Relief Fund), which is an overseas beneficiary agency of UJA-Federation of New York.
UJA-Federation is working closely with the JDC to determine what kind of humanitarian aid will be required in Haiti and how it can help raise the necessary funding. In addition, UJA-Federation is monitoring the situation along with its network of agencies to see what other kinds of aid will be needed.  “As heart-wrenching images and reports come in from the earthquake in Haiti, our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and family members,” said John S. Ruskay, executive vice president and CEO of UJA-Federation. “Let us pray for the proud people of Haiti who endure so much and must now cope with this devastating natural disaster.”
