Follow on Google News | Fans Of Folk Raise $1,000 For Food BankFans of K.C. Clifford, a three-time Woody Guthrie Award-winning folk singer-songwriter from Oklahoma City, banded together to raise nearly $1,000 for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
By: Crissinger PR “My fans have always been an enormous source of support for me, and once again they’ve stepped up to rally behind a cause I am deeply passionate about,” Clifford said. One in five Oklahoma children struggles with hunger on a daily basis. For every $1 donated, the Regional Food Bank is able to return over $14 worth of food to the community, or seven meals per dollar. Clifford was honored to join the Regional Food Bank’s Celebrity Council following her appearance on the popular NBC reality television show “The Biggest Loser” in March 2009. The special segment featured her personal struggle with food and weight issues (she had recently lost more than 100 pounds on her own), and the anti-hunger song she wrote for the Regional Food Bank, “Raise Your Voice.” The experience has led to speaking engagements and performances at food banks across the country. “We are incredibly grateful for K.C.’s commitment to fighting hunger in Oklahoma,” said Rodney Bivens, executive director of the Regional Food Bank. “The funds raised by pre-sales of Orchid will provide nearly 7,000 meals to hungry Oklahomans. That’s music to my ears!” Other members of the Celebrity Council include: Sherree Chamberlain, Graham Colton, Mayor Mick Cornett, Johnathan Kayne, "Magic Man" Jeff Roberts, Travis Brorsen, Danny Cahill and Neill & Amanda Harmer. Their collective goal is to increase awareness about hunger issues in the state by serving as public advocates for the cause. A two-day CD release concert for Orchid will be held on February 12 and 13 at the Blue Door, located at 2805 N. McKinley Ave. in Oklahoma City. Tickets are $15 and seating is limited.
