HelperHire.com.au::Working its Matchmaking Mojo

Online employment registry is solving odd-job dilemmas one task at a time.

Jan. 11, 2010 - PRLog -- AUSTRALIA – (Jan. 11, 2010) When you’re looking down the barrel of a daunting deadline or lengthy to-do list, four hands are better than two. That extra help can be found at HelperHire.com.au, a small-job registry backed by a business incubation grant from the Australian government.

Based in Wollongong, HelperHire provides an online forum for locating skilled local workers to tackle tasks at the office or on the home front.

“Procrastination does nothing but pile on the angst,” said entrepreneur Kristina Calvert, owner of the Australian help-for-hire clearing house. “It’s not healthy and only magnifies your problems. Getting help gives stress the heave-ho. Suddenly that to-do list loses its bite, and you can breathe again!”

The company’s unique setup gives clients the option to either employ someone to do the work independently or to labour side by side with them. Registry is simple and takes just 10 minutes. Once signed up, a “Hirer” can scan the “Helper” board by postal code and skill set.

The site showcases profiles from tradesmen, homemakers, office workers, students, stock takers, migrants, bi-lingual applicants and others skilled workers. Hirers also can get assistance with moving, pet care, social events, automotive work, babysitting, gardening, house projects and running errands.

When the Hirer finds a potential match, the worker is notified by email and SMS text. If an agreement is reached during subsequent discussions, the Hirer books the Helper to do the job at a mutually convenient time.

“Get work and hire help. We have all the help you need around the house and office,” says Calvert. “You gotta realize, sometimes you need a helping hand. I should know!” says the single mum of two. “Why sit around and be miserable? There are so many people willing to put in a couple hours of hard work. You solve their problems, and they solve yours!”

You can farm out your jobs, but working with your hired help offers distinct benefits, notes Calvert.
•   You get the task done in half the time.
•   You can learn skills by working with an expert.
•   You can monitor the job closely, ensuring satisfaction.

Each skilled worker sets his or her availability and wage scale and can upload a profile picture, too. The information is posted for free. Upon employment, payment is made daily through the website. Positive feedback boosts profile ratings, encouraging further employment.

Visitors to the website may sign up in both the Hirer section and the Helper section.
“This setup helps people find enjoyable work. They spend time doing what they like and go home feeling happy, productive and compensated,” says Calvert. “The Hirer gets his errands done and helps the local economy in the process. It’s true economic synergy. It’s the way things should be.”
