Art Student Launches 'epic Tail'.

Jan. 6, 2010 - PRLog -- CLINTON CORNERS, NY--Local artitst, MHS ’09 alumna and SUNY Purchase art+design freshman Caterina LoMedico Marriott (aka Kate Marriott) has recently launched a series of illustrated novels for girls ages 7-12. The books tell the stories of a crew of quasi-outcast adolescent girls, all of whom share a big secret: they are mermaids. The “tails” deal with a handful of issues facing girls today, nearly each new installment addressing a different environmental concern on top of encouragement for readers when it comes to social issues like crushes, conquering one’s fears, making sacrifices and following your heart.
Marriott began writing her first book, The Tail of Caterina Mermaid, in tenth grade but dismissed and restarted the idea several times until the spring of her senior year in high school; now entering the second semester of her freshman year in college, Marriott has written three books, all published by CreateSpace and carried by major, chain, online and independent bookstores spanning America and the United Kingdom: The Tail of Caterina Mermaid’s sequel Monica Mermaid and the Tail of the Gilded Trident, and A Yule Tide Tail. The series is set in Hillnook, an ambiguous region inspired by the two areas where Marriott grew up; coastal New England and Upstate New York.
About a third of the way finished with the fourth book (Kendall Mermaid’s Tail in Shark Lagoon), Marriott aspires to have finished and published the first five installments by the end of freshman year at Purchase, where she majors in sculpture.
