Jan. 6, 2010 - PRLog -- CHICAGO, Ill. – AmeriCorps members, partnering with Literacy Volunteers of Illinois (LVI), are suiting up for “A Day On, Not a Day Off” service activities in memory of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The 30 members will be preparing lunch at the Ronald McDonald House in Lincoln Park and painting rooms at World Relief in Albany Park during the MLK Holiday.

As an annual tribute to Martin Luther King Jr.’s constant effort towards equality for all, AmeriCorps members are volunteering during a day many take off. The day’s events focus on the importance of King’s contributions and how service reminds us how similar we all are.

In addition to the two projects, members are contributing extra by donating winter clothing items to World Relief and canned food items to the Ronald McDonald House pantry. For more information on MLK Day service projects visit www.mlkday.gov.
