Dec. 30, 2009 - PRLog -- Halifax, UK, - Formed in April 1995 by the merger of the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and Broadgreen Hospital NHS Trust, The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the largest and busiest hospital trusts in the North of England.  With over 1000 beds, the Trust sees almost a million patients every year and is one of the top 20 teaching Trusts in the country.

Keeping beds and mattresses at peak performance is vital to ensure availability of beds and therapy products to ensure patient safety, thus achieving optimum levels of hygiene and to manage reduced levels of pressure damage.  Charged with achieving this is Lisa Salter, Head of Professional Nursing Practice, who took on the responsibility almost two years ago.

"Last year, we made the decision to investigate a more radical approach to bed management and decontamination services," stated Lisa.  "In December, Sidhil took over from another company at the Trust, assuming control of the decontamination facility as part of a total beds and surfaces service and maintenance agreement."

Sidhil provided the Trust with two new, permanent full time technicians, whose role it is to clean, check and maintain bedframes. "The total turnaround achieved by the Sidhil team has been amazing," confirmed Lisa. "When they took over, we had a total of 80 beds out of commission. Winter admissions were peaking, with an extra 100 patients a day coming into the Trust on the run up to Christmas.  Where other Trusts were literally having to buy in beds to cope with these demands, our technicians succeeded in getting all our beds back into service quickly, safely and professionally, easing the strain."

Sidhil also provided the Trust with additional technicians in the early stages to help get to know the Trust and its requirements, putting all individuals through training on the range of equipment in use at the hospitals.

"The professionalism of our technicians has helped to raise the bar for us," confirmed Lisa.  "As a Trust, we are committed to reducing healthcare acquired infections.  The knowledge and experience of the Sidhil team and the proactive approach taken by our technicians in terms of new ideas and suggestions on decontamination and infection prevention and control whilst working with the infection prevention and control team has helped us to drive up standards."

Sidhil's contract with the Trust includes annual maintenance visits, routine and emergency repairs and management of the onsite decontamination service for beds and mattresses.
