Dec. 29, 2009 - PRLog -- On Friday, October 16, 2009, Sibley’s Sullivan Center for Breast Health hosted their 5th annual "One Hundred Hugs Day."  The Center schedules up to 100 free mammograms for uninsured and underserved women in recognition of National Mammography Day.  The special part of Sibley’s program is that if a cancer is discovered, all follow-up treatment is free.  Eighty-two women came for free mammograms; eight were scheduled for follow-up imaging.

In addition, breast surgeons Colette M. Magnant, MD and Richard L. Flax, MD performed clinical breast exams on 15 uninsured women who did not have a physician to whom a report could be sent.  The FDA requires the name of a physician to receive a report. The generosity of Drs. Magnant and Flax in accepting these women as their patients allowed them to receive a mammogram.

Once again, the Washington Mystics donated 100 gift bags for the women. Sibley is the official healthcare provider for the Mystics and sponsor of the Breast Health Awareness game. The women left with smiles on their faces and a big thank you to Sibley Hospital.
