New Year Resolution: Living 2010 More Holistically

2010 is here. How to choose and embrace a successful new year resolution? AmAre Way explains that success is balancing quantitative and qualitative goals, sharing them, setting milestones, rewarding ourselves (and having a plan B for exceptions).

Dec. 29, 2009 - PRLog -- VANCOUVER - On http://www.amareway.org/ bloggers show how the "AmAre Way" can be applied to identify, embrace and implement a successful new year resolution for 2010. There is always room for improvement, to make a difference in our lives and for our beloved ones. Here and now are the only place and time where we can act, so this is the best time ever to start achieving our resolutions.

AmAre is an Italian verb which stands for “To Love”. It also summarizes what AmAre bloggers experienced as a way to be happy: Aware (Being), Meditating, Active (Being), Respectful (Being), Eating (properly). AmAre also shows we are united in an interconnected universe: there is no (I) Am without (We) Are. This is an extremely simple concept to understand, but which has positive effects for a lifetime, or at least for the whole 2010 is applied to new year resolutions.

AmAre Way identifies some aspects common to beneficial new year resolutions: balancing quantitative and qualitative goals; sharing goals with other people, ideally 8 or so; setting milestones along the way; rewarding ourselves and having a plan B for sporadic deviation from original goal.

If we set new year resolutions, people may balance broad benefits with precise goals. An example: if the resolution is to eat healthy, people do need to define what we mean with healthy. Otherwise, it is not easy to tell if the resolution has been embraced. At the same time, it is necessary to have an overall vision, otherwise even by sticking to the letter of the resolution people may not be able to achieve all the related benefits. The other characteristics of a successful resolution are discussed on http://www.amareway.org/

One highlight is the importance of peers' support: walking alone may, sometimes, be faster. But this benefit doesn't beat the joy of sharing the path with people we care for. Also, having journey companions makes easier to keep people motivated, especially when it is time to renounce something pleasant in the short term, but whose lasting side-effects are overwhelming compared to short-term gratification. AmAre Way suggestion is to share our resolutions with 8 people, roughly divided as 3 family members, 3 close friends, 2 people with good chemistry but seen only a few times per week, like at the gym etc. Usually, the more public the commitment, the more determined people are in keeping it.
