Dec. 25, 2009 - PRLog -- Studies show that bunions are linked to high heels.  A bunion is a deformity of the bone at the base of the big toe, and may be painful. Typically the big toe turns in toward the the middle toe(depending on severity), and the joint may be swollen and tender.

Many women love to wear high heels. The problem is, high heels create uncomfortable feet, especially with the trend of 4 inch high heels. High heels put a lot of stress on the toes and ball of the foot. Bunions are created and or worsened by high heels. Although women really want to look good wearing high heels, they might not wear them because it just hurts too much.

Here are a few tips on how to wear high heels and be a little more comfy. First, if women want to wear a pump with a 4 inch heel, find one with a taller platform height. The platform height is the measurement of the sole of the shoe between the ground and the ball of the foot. Let’s say they buy a 4 inch heel pump that has a platform height of an inch. If the ball of their foot is an inch off the ground, their heel will only be 3 inches higher than the ball of their foot. The heel will still be 4 inches off the ground but the angle of the foot won’t be as steep because of the added extra inch on the platform height. The reduced angle on the foot equals less stress on the feet and toes.

If the toes become numb or painful, the shoes are probably too tight. Sometimes people buy a pair of shoes hoping that they would stretch after a few wears. Some times they do and some times they don't. The times where they don’t stretch, those shoes are discarded never to be worn again.

Here’s a trick on helping ladies find the perfect fit for their ladies shoes. If the shoe is too wide and there isn’t a narrow width, try the shoe a half size smaller. If the shoe is too narrow and there isn’t a wide width, then try the shoe a half size bigger.
