Follow on Google News | Wounded companion dog in Iraq awaits miracleThis holiday season, CHILDSAFEfoundation helps a wounded companion dog who serves American soldiers in Iraq.
A Border collie mix breed, Dangles has bonded with an Army Infantry Unit from Fort Drum. Dangles lost the use of his hind leg after being hit by a bullet. CHILDSAFEfoundation will help defray the soldiers costs of shipping Dangles back home to the United States for surgery. “I am glad that we are starting to move towards taking care of this most unremarkable animal that has made such a remarkable difference in so many lives,” said one solider (name removed for security). “He never fails to come to me and to put his head in my lap and to lean against me,” the solider said. The SPCA’s Operation Baghdad Pups spends an average of $4,000 to rescue a single dog. Soldiers are asked for an additional $1,000 donation to help with the cost of the rescue. Dangles, with his special needs, will require transport as well as surgery for his injured leg. He also needs a foster home until one of the men from the unit can provide a permanent home. As part of its “Christmas Miracles Campaign,” CHILDSAFEfoundation is selling peace T-shirts on its Web site to fund Dangles’ rescue and medical care. Dangles is one animal of many trapped in war zones. His rescue is part of a new CHILDSAFEfoundation program – ARF (Animal Refugee Fund). The ARF was established to help fund efforts of rescue groups working in war zones providing rescue, medical attention, shelter and food for the countless number of animals left to fend for themselves. Founder of CHILDSAFEfoundation Dr. Jacqueline Beaudoin says there is no difference between the wounded children they help or the animals that need rescue. “They both come into this world with complete trust and an unlimited supply of love on offer. It is only right that we do everything possible to restore their trust, keep them safe, and return their love,” she said. “Right now we are focusing our attention on finding that special someone who will provide foster care for Dangles and give these soldiers and their dog the Christmas Miracle they are praying for.” Anyone who feels they are that perfect someone should email CHILDSAFEfoundation at Dangles@childsafefoundation- # # # CHILDSAFEfoundation focuses on a limb replacement program to fundraise child victims of cluster bombs and landmines internationally.
