Trucker Launches ‘New Single Friday’ a Free Monthly Music Download Program

Trucker Will Be Releasing Their New Album As It Is Being Created and Provide a New Single Every Month for Free on Their Website

Dec. 22, 2009 - PRLog -- Trucker, an unsigned rock country band, today announced it will be releasing it’s new album one single at a time as they are being created. Every third Friday of the month, for the next 12 months, a new song will be released as a free download from their website at http://blog.truckerrocks.com/truckerblog/new-single-fridays.html. The first single ‘Grow Away’ was released, December 18, in time to wish everyone a happy holiday.

The saying goes that every twenty years or so a fad returns, such is the case for the music industry. Big acts like Elvis, Sinatra and The Beatles made most of their money through the sale of 45 singles. Singles were eventually replaced by albums, but iTunes and other digital downloading have spawned a new wave of the single.

“...the album as a means of transmitting musical craft didn’t really become profitable until the mid-1960s...”, said Hank Rischar, Trucker keyboards and vocals, “...(singles) were discontinued by the record companies because they were afraid they’d be cannibalizing sales of the much more profitable album format.”

Thanks to the digital music revolution, listeners are now able to choose their favorite track from albums that have increasingly become padded with filler.

In a post on the Trucker blog Hank refers to the filling of records, “...artists have been padding their records with filler since the beginning of recorded music, so this trend doesn’t make me all that sad. What makes me sad is that artists that I used to admire (Pearl Jam, Phish, Dave Matthews Band, etc.) are doing it or have done it now for much of the decade.”

With ‘New Single Friday’ Trucker is taking their music back to the day of those big acts who made their name through singles. Trucker is devoting individual care to each song in an effort to make them stand on their own strength and hopefully create an album void of filler.
