Dec. 16, 2009 - PRLog -- (Port St. Lucie, FL) - As the year comes to a close, many companies are wondering how to keep employees motivated without extending holiday bonuses and salary increases.  TopGrading Solutions recently conducted research to determine what year-end non-cash incentives would motivate employees in the Payment Solutions, Retail Technology and Supply Chain Procurement and Planning Industries. The search firm is a perennial President Club winner within MRINetwork®, the world’s largest search and recruitment organization.

Results of the poll indicate that there are alternatives to bonuses that can stimulate employees heading into 2010.  Many are looking for some time away from the office to recover from an intense year of closures, layoffs, and rebuilding.  Thirty-seven percent of TopGrading’s respondents indicated that they would favor this extra time off, 21% said a simple “thank you” would be an ample motivator, and 15% said that they would favor a holiday bash.  The remaining respondents felt there was nothing that could be done to motivate them at year-end with 9% feeling that their companies did a fine job keeping them motivated during the recession, whereas 17% stated nothing could turn their low spirits around.

Many companies realize the importance of motivating employees but are finding it difficult to do so during challenging times. Larry Lebofsky, Vice President and Executive Recruiter at TopGrading Solutions, insists that as the recession comes to its tail-end, it is crucial for companies to increase employee spirits.  “A simple ‘thank you’ goes a long way. Making employees feel appreciated will motivate them, which in return increases their productivity.”  Lebofsky also pointed out the results of their last poll, where nearly 50% of respondents were looking to leave their current employer due to mistreatment during the recession.  Go to http://www.greensheet.com/newswire.php?newswire_id=16258 for more details on that poll.

With the Holidays upon us, companies are advised to re-evaluate their current tactics for motivating their employees.  “Either a day off or a simple card showing your gratitude could be enough to bring the team back together in time to embrace and conquer 2010.  Otherwise, as the economy improves, managers may face a retention nightmare.”, recommends Lebofsky.
