Dec. 16, 2009 - PRLog -- Moore Dance Project will present its highly-acclaimed dance epic, Colours of Courage: A Celebration of Black History in America, in partnership with venues located in three Central Florida counties, including Orange, Seminole and Volusia.  Created for presentation at venues and organizations celebrating Black History Month, Colours of Courage blends contemporary dance, cultural music and historically-accurate narratives to trace the triumphs and challenges of the African-American experience from 17th-century Africa to today.  Performances take place as follows in 2010:  January 29 and 30 at 8pm, and January 31 at 2pm at The Garden Theatre in Winter Garden; February 5 at 7:30pm at Trinity Preparatory School in Winter Park; February 6 at 2pm and 7pm and February 7 at 2pm at The Athens Theatre in DeLand.  General admission is $22; admission for children under 12, university students and guests 55 and over is $18.  Tickets can be purchased by contacting the box office at each presenting venue (see below).  The February 5 presentation at Trinity Preparatory School is part of ArtsFest ( and 100 complimentary tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at beginning February 2, 2010.  To learn more about The Center for Contemporary Dance, including information about newly added performances of Colours of Courage, please visit or call (407) 695-8366.
Produced by The Center for Contemporary Dance and made possible by funding from United Arts of Central Florida and Target Stores, Colours of Courage "is an artistic documentation of African-American history," says Dario J. Moore, Artistic Director for Moore Dance Project.  Beginning in 17th-century Africa and moving forward in time through significant events, including the Atlantic slave-trade and the Civil Rights Movement, Colours of Courage "has been inspiring and educating audiences of all ages for the past four years," explains Craig W. Johnson, Executive Director for The Center.  Performances are followed by an open-forum discussion about the impact of African-American history on modern culture.  "Colours of Courage is a story about all of us," says Moore, "Above all else, the show is about the responsibility we share in creating the kind of world we'd like to see."
