Extreme Makeover Home Edition uses earth-friendly sound control solutions in latest home

United Plastics introduces the dB family of soundproofing products at IBS Booth #N2172. dB soundproofing solutions reduce noise by up to 75% in new and preexisting homes, apartments, condos and offices.

Dec. 16, 2009 - PRLog -- The United Plastics Corporation in Mt. Airy, NC volunteered labor and over 3,000lbs of their earth-friendly dB-3 and dB-4looring sound control solutions to the latest Extreme Makeover: Home Edition project in Lexington, NC. The new, 4,200 sq. ft. home was constructed from the ground up for the Creasey family. The new home utilizes dB-3 and dB-4looring sound barriers to reduce sound throughout their new home by 75 percent. The episode unveiling the Creasey family’s new home is set to air in February of 2010 on ABC.

“It was really a great experience,” said Jack Nagy, Sr. Vice President of Sales Marketing for United Plastics, of the company’s involvement. “All of us who went down there feel very good about being able to help a local family.”

United Plastics’ dB™ family of sound control barriers are constructed from recycled EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) plastic that is 100 percent recyclable and would otherwise end up in landfills. The dB™ family of sound control solutions includes dB-3® Pro Series for new walls, dB2-4Walls™ for preexisting walls, and dB-4looring™ for new sub-floors.

Engineers at United Plastics Corp. recognized the acoustical properties of the EVA plastic scrap being left behind during a luxury auto maker’s trim production processes. United Plastics Corp. created a process that transforms that scrap into their sound controlling membranes for walls and floors. The dB™ products weigh 1lb/ft2 - much less than drywall-based, sound barriers.

“We’re giving builders cost-effective acoustic barriers that are easy to install,” said Nagy. “These lightweight barriers will cut labor costs and cut down on our carbon footprint because they’re made from material that was headed for the landfill.”

dB2-4Walls ™ are remodeling-phase sound control solutions. The wallpaper-like installation makes dB2-4Walls ™ consumer-accessible and applicable. dB2-4Walls ™ are designed for consumers and remodelers interested in dampening sound in preexisting home, apartment, condo and office spaces. dB2-4Walls™ are easily applied to walls with an adhesive, and can then be painted over to match existing aesthetics.

“Maybe you’re an aspiring musician, you’re installing a home theater, or too much noise is getting into your baby’s room,” says Nagy. “We think we have a way to make homes and lives a little more peaceful.”

The dB acoustic barriers weigh less than 1 lb/ft2 and are sold in 4’x 8’ rolls. Manufactured in the United States and derived from post-industrial scrap, EVA plastic, the dB™ family of acoustic barriers are impermeable to moisture and pass ASTM E-84 fire and smoke tests.
