Dec. 10, 2009 - PRLog -- BBC National Orchestra of Wales’ new season of six concerts at Brangwyn Hall, Swansea begins on Saturday 12 December with one of today’s leading soloists David Childs performing Karl Jenkins’ Euphonium Concerto in a Winter Celebrations concert full of Christmas cheer.

The seasonal programme for the evening also includes Ave Rex - a sequence of carols by William Mathias - plus two of Sibelius’ most popular works; the brooding northern world of his Fifth Symphony and the festive Karelia Suite.

Conducting the winter celebration will be Wales’ own world class conductor Grant Llewellyn with the mighty BBC National Chorus of Wales adding their epic sound to the festivities.

This BBC National Orchestra of Wales season in Swansea continues until June with a special emphasis on music from Russia with masterpieces by Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev and Shostakovich. These pieces, alongside music by other great composers are planned to reach out to everybody, whatever their musical tastes.

The season has a line up of international soloists, ranging from pianists and violinists to singers, including some of the most exciting emerging young performers.

Highlights of the season include music from the Orchestra’s Principal Conductor Thierry Fischer’s home country Switzerland, by Frank Martin, plus performances by soloists Simon Trpčeski {Tchaikovsky Piano concerto No2}, Emmanuelle Bertrand, Nikolai Demidenko and soprano Emma Bell.

Tadaaki Otaka will also return to Swansea to conduct three romantic classics joining Theirry Fischer, Grant Llewellyn, Walter Weller, François-Xavier Roth, and Matthias Bamert in the line up of conductors.  

The concerts will also be recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 3.

General booking for single concerts is open. Tickets are available from the BBC National Orchestra of Wales Audience Line on 0800 052 1812. Ticket Prices: £11.50 to £14.50 with discounts available for students, disabled patrons plus one companion, claimants, MAX card holders and over 60s and groups. Family tickets are also available for £16.50 (for 2 adults and 1-4 children) and £11 (for 1 adult and 1-2 children).
