Follow on Google News | Independent Filmmakers Being Creative in Funding their First MovieIt's not easy trying to raise money for your first independent feature film but these local independent filmmakers are trying a different approach to help fund their movie. They're using the old barter technique.
By: 3 Knuckles Deep Productions Rick Hill came up the idea for the film and enlisted the help of his two friends Chuck Lamb and John Case to help him develop the treatment and a script. Chuck Lamb is better know to the world as Dead Body Guy and became a global phenomenon in 2006. Visit Chuck's website at http://www.deadbodyguy.com. They worked on a treatment that they registered with the WGA. They've gotten a lot of positive feedback on the treatment and the concept of the film. The only question was how to raise funds for the film. They do have some potential investors in the film but that alone was not enough to complete production. Then the trio had a great idea. Let's use Craigslist and the barter category to help raise funds for the production. Other people have used the barter system on Craigslist. Taking inspiration from the famous paper clip trade they decided to use the same tactic to raise funding for their film. "People have been using the barter system for a long time. We decided to give it a try." said John Case. What are some of the initial items up for trade and how will it work? According to John they are starting with a few simple items up for trade and hope to get items that are worth a little bit more than their item in trade. This way they can keep trading up and eventually have items that are worth the amount of their goal. They have given themselves 90 days to complete this. After that time they'll take the value of what has been traded so far and apply that towards the production. "We've set up a blog and twitter account so people can see the progress we've made so far." said John. The first items up for barter are a Nintendo Wii game and a speaking role in the movie. "We wanted to start with a splash so we offered up for barter a speaking role in the movie. We'll even fly the person out to the set."
