Dec. 4, 2009 - PRLog -- This year the Cy-Fair High School Key Club will host a community outreach program in support of children in the Orleans Parish Public School System to raise money for books. The students have dubbed this event, Reading Educating Awareness Day.

Upon discovering the child literacy rate of 40% in New Orleans, Louisiana and the difficulties within the school system to obtain essential learning materials, the students of the Cy-Fair High School Key Club have partnered with community leaders to help obtain books for the children. The members of Cy-Fair High School Key Club will launch their R.E.A.D. Festival at West Houston Church on Saturday December 5th, 2009. This event will take place between 12:00PM and 3:00PM at 17100 West Road in Houston, Texas.

The event will focus on efforts to collect monetary donations from individuals and businesses in efforts to donate funding for literature for the students of Orleans Parish Public School System. There is no entry fee for this event and participants are encouraged to donate used books for children in all grade levels or contribute donations which will then be used to purchase literature for the students of New Orleans.

In honor of her literacy foundation, READ3Zero, Melissa M. Williams will donate 100 copies of books from her chapter-book series, Iggy the Iguana. Melissa Williams will also perform a public reading of her books during this event and share news with participants of READ3Zero’s upcoming short-story contest for kids: “I Write—Short Stories By Kids, For Kids.”
