Dec. 3, 2009 - PRLog -- Bob Brown, Manager at Beverly’s Fabric & Crafts, rushed into work early Saturday morning over the holiday weekend to make sure everything was in its place, but what he found was that his store’s electricity was completely out. The day also marked the arrival of Theresa Pulido, author of Hook, Loop & Lock, a popular guide to a craft technique called locker-hooking. Ms. Pulido was scheduled to begin her book signing tour at Bob’s store in just a few short hours. “I was stunned when I flipped the lights on and nothing happened, it’s one of those things you just can’t entirely plan for.”
According to sources, wind gusts of up to 30 miles per hour began bringing down power lines at approximately 8:30am on the morning of November 28th. The outage affected several thousand residents and businesses in both Sonoma County and West Santa Rosa and lasted well into the afternoon.
While most businesses simply shut their doors for the day, Bob decided to keep Beverly’s open out of respect for his customers and his guest of honor, author Theresa Pulido. He explains, “…it was not a huge turnout due to the fact we were without electricity for 5 hours, but we remained open and shopped by flashlight.”
Bridget, a visitor who came to Beverly’s for the book signing told us, “Everyone was great, the customers and employees actually seemed to be having fun with it.” The employees grabbed calculators for the register and flashlights for the customers. Brown adds, “Theresa Pulido was very nice and made the best of the situation. She had lots of samples and taught [our customers] how to do fun and simple projects for 2 hours. The customers were impressed, excited and enjoyed her demonstration. They all bought books and had her sign them.”
Ms. Pulido will continue her tour this Saturday, December 5th at Beverly’s Rocklin, CA location from 11am-1pm and at Beverly’s in Citrus Heights, CA from 2pm-4pm. On December 12th she will be at Beverly’s in Soquel, CA from 11am-1pm and at Beverly’s in Monterey, CA from 1pm-3pm.
