Follow on Google News | WPGA 2009 Annual Contest Jurors' AnnouncementDilip Bhatia, Tom Atwood and John Delaney have won first, second and third prize, respectively, in the Photographer of the Year category of the WPGA 2009 Annual Contest. Larry Louie is the recipient of the Documentary Humanitarian Grant.
Tom Atwood (Los Angeles) and John Delaney (New York) were awarded with the Second and Third Prize, while Antonio Bolfo (New York) received a Merit of Honor. The Canadian photographer Larry Louie was the recipient of the Documentary Humanitarian Grant. Lorne Resnick, David Zimmerman, Navid Baraty and Tom Chambers won the First Prize in Fine Art, Landscape, Abstract and digital Enhanced categories, respectively. All selected images will be exposed in Madrid, Spain in April 2010 and published in the book WPGA 2009 Annual. A large portion of the proceeds of the sales of the exposed works of art will be donated to Save the Children. Worldwide Photography Gala Award's mission is to recognize exceptional photographers through exhibitions, publications and by extensively promoting their work. Believing that everyone and every organization has a responsibility to contribute to the benefit of world humanity, WPGA donates a substantial portion of its revenues to established international organizations which advance the welfare of underprivileged societies. Save the Children is the humanitarian organization to benefit from these events. To fulfill its mission WPGA has currently open three calls for entries open to professional and amateurs photographers worldwide: The Jacob Riis Award (deadline January 23rd, 2010), a portfolio competition juried by Susan Zadeh (Netherlands) The Julia Cameron Award (deadline February 7th, 2010), a women-only competition, juried by Mary Ellen Mark, Alessandra Sanguinetti, Olivia Arthur, Kim Weston, Vanessa Whinship and Carol McCusker, and sponsored by Zoom Magazine and Professional Women Photographers. Professional and amateurs will compete separately in diggerent thematic categories and the awarded images will be published in Zoom Magazine. The Nadar Award (deadline January 17th, 2010), a competition for students and recent graduates, juried by Reid Callanan and Roy Flukinger, and sponsored by Santa Fe Photographic Workshops. The winner will award a free travel, lodging and tuition to attend a workshop of his/her choice organized by Santa Fe Workshops.
