2010 Volkswagen Golf Wins European Car of the Year

The Volkswagen Polo is the 2010 European Car of the Year, beating out the Toyota iQ for the prestigious title.

Dec. 2, 2009 - PRLog -- The Volkswagen Polo is the 2010 European Car of the Year, beating out the Toyota iQ for the prestigious title. There were 7 finalist cars, two of which were German, two were French, one was Czech, one was Japanese, and one was technically American.

The Polo received 59 votes, whereas the Toyota iQ received a total of 58 votes. The runners up include the Opel/Vauxhall Astra, Skoda Yeti, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Peugeot 3008, and the Citroen C3 Picasso.

VW's Supermini is 7.5 percent lighter than the previous model, and has a five-star safety rating. Despite the lighter weight, it has a larger boot and a bigger body. The car comes with six different engine options up to the 104 horsepower 1.2 liter TSI.
