Some of these websites only search the latest electoral roll, some search the latest one and back to either 2002 or even 1992, you might think that this is irrelevant as you only want to search the latest electoral roll to see where the person lives now, this makes sense but unfortunately is not right. The voters roll is now edited, when you fill in the electoral register you can now opt out of the electoral roll. A company can also buy access to other systems and can perform search the Royal Mail PAF file, this is another list of names and addresses, list is probably an understatement as it contains over 18 million records! Some also allow you to search the BT Osis file so you may even obtain a telephone number for the person you are looking for, it’s always worth seeing if a telephone number search is included. • Finally make sure the website is a genuine one, do they have their address on the site? Do they have a contact number; you should always ring and see if you can speak to someone. Can you search the voters roll for free? Or can you search the electoral roll for free?
