Nov. 24, 2009 - PRLog -- Baltimore, MD -- REEL GOOD PRODUCTIONS, LLC, formed in May 2009, announces the acquisition of the film rights to My Name is Love: The Darlene Love Story (William Morrow and Company, ISBN 0-688-15657-6). Darlene Love, whose voice – as described by the New York Times -- is “as embedded in the history of rock and roll as Eric Clapton’s guitar and Bob Dylan’s lyrics” is hoping to have her story on the big screen by 2011. This is REEL Good Productions first independent project.
“REEL Good Productions is thrilled to be working with Ms. Love on this, our first independent film project,” says REEL Good Productions founder, Karen Braithwaite. “Her story and its historic significance culturally and musically, should be shared with a wider audience. It is particularly thrilling in light of the fact that she is being recognized this year as a 2010 nominee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.” The acquisition of the film rights to Ms. Love’s book were made prior to this historic announcement.
“I am so excited about what we are getting ready to do with REEL Good Productions,” says Ms. Love. “They have so much passion for this project – they see what the Darlene Love story is about. It’s more than a tale about me; this story is a history lesson about the business, about Phil Spector ‘s influence, it’s about culture and so much more. I have had other people interested in bringing this story to the big screen, but none of them grasped the entirety of it like these people.”
Hand-picked by music legend himself, Phil Spector, Ms. Love is widely considered the voice that launched a hundred hits. During the 1960’s mega girl-group era, she sang backup for artists like Sam Cooke, Elvis Presley, Cher, Dionne Warwick and Aretha Franklin. A favorite of David Letterman, Love has performed on his Late Night Christmas special since 1986 and played on Broadway as Motormouth Maybelle in Hairspray.
REEL Good Productions, LLC was created as a vehicle to invest in independent films.
Currently, REEL Good Productions is in the process of interviewing script writers for the screenplay. The working title for this film is Who is Darlene Love? To find out more about Darlene Love, please go to www.youtube.com/whoisdarlenelove
