Nov. 21, 2009 - PRLog -- Members of the public have the opportunity to bid for seats on either boat and join the competition. The fishing trip will be held on December 29th. Winning bids will receive one of eight seats on the boat, lunch, refreshments during the trip and dinner, the “catch of the cast”, will be served to all participants at the Naples Grande Beach Resort prepared by their award winning chefs.  Proceeds of the “Dallas Fishing Challenge” will benefit children’s mental health through the J. Timothy Hogan Foundation.
The fishing trip is a fun extension of the “Ewings of Dallas New Years Eve Safari GALA”. The event now encompasses three days of events culminating with New Years Eve Gala held at the Naples Grande Beach Resort.
In keeping with the safari theme, Steve Kanaly offered to extend his visit to Naples and host the day long fishing trip. “I was really impressed with the work these folks are doing in Naples and the more I learned about their mission, the more I wanted to do more to help.” Jeanne Jackson, Executive Director of the Foundation and event coordinator, said she “was thrilled by the idea and grateful that Mr. Kanaly would be so generous.”
Christopher Atkins laid down his challenge after learning of the fishing trip, lending additional support to help the charity.
Steve recalls the biggest he ever hooked was an eleven feet long, 50 year old sturgeon, much larger than himself in the Frazier River of British Columbia, in 2000.  “I fought the fish for well over an hour.  I also was 50 years old!  It was a tie...I released the fish and hope I can catch it again when I'm 80!”
Chris Atkins says his biggest catch ever was a blue marlin weighing in at 220 pounds in Mexico while fishing with his father.  But he also remembers “the one that got away”, a black marlin he hooked in Australia over 300 lbs!  “After a long struggle, he (the marlin) spit the hook” said Chris.
The auction is scheduled to start on December 1st on the Foundation’s website www.jthogan.org. For more information you may email Don McHugh, President at dj@Mchugh.net or Jeanne Jackson, Executive Director at Jeanne.Jackson@jthogan.com.
