Cake, Please! makes an edible Christmas Tree, Ornaments and Presents as their “TeaRoom Table Topper” Design for A Christmas Affair:  It’s a Wild Holiday hosted by The Austin Junior League.  The event runs from November 18th –November 22nd at the Palmer Event Center.

After running through many sketches, research and safari themes; the Cake, Please! Team decided to attempt something that they had not seen before.  There were going to make a Christmas Tree pine needle by pine needle!  Once the decision was made it was just a matter or how to execute the project.  The team discussed the process for about an hour, making small examples to emulate what couldn’t be expressed in words.  At one point a small outdoor Christmas tree decoration was purchased and disassembled to give them an idea of how to approach the task.

Once the final decision was made on how to accomplish the construction of the tree it was time to get to work.  The Tree itself was comprised of more than 70 decorator hours and approximately 2000 pine needles.  Cake, Please! also decided to use edible sugar sheets of various animal prints.  These sheets were used to decorate the gift box bows and adorn some of the Christmas tree ornaments.  There were also some hand painted animal print patterns on the ornaments and Christmas skirting.

This Edible Artwork was made to be a display, however, each element of this project could easily be converted to all edible products.  The Christmas boxes (which are Styrofoam covered in rolled sugar) could be any flavor cake one desires.  The Tree pine needles and bows are made of rolled sugar. The ornaments are chocolate and peanut butter truffles, rolled sugar snowflakes, candy canes and animal print purses.
