West Coast Hotels Have Green In Mind

Hotels are creative about the room packages they promote for sale to their guests. Many also have the environment in mind with “green packages” that encourage travelers to do their part while traveling.

Nov. 19, 2009 - PRLog -- Hotels are very creative about the room packages they promote for sale to their prospective guests.  Lately, many also have the environment in mind with “green packages” that encourage travelers to do their part while traveling.  To demonstrate this trend, here are a few properties that are doing their part.

Hyatt at Fisherman’s Wharf
This San Francisco hotel has the environment top of mind with its new “Spare the Air Explore” package, which is designed so that conscientious travelers can simply park their belongings and car at the hotel and explore San Francisco with a minimized impact on the city’s environment, walking to nearby attractions or utilizing the myriad of public transportation options.  Available through January 31, 2010, rates for this environmentally-friendly package start at only $183 and inclusions are as follows:  guest room for one night; a list of attractions along the public transportation routes and within walking distance (from the hotel); and two all-day passes for unlimited use of the landmark Cable Cars, Historic Streetcars and a fleet of other alternative fuel and electric public transportation vehicles.  http:fishermanswharf.hyatt.com

Pan Pacific Seattle
In addition to donating unused banquet food to Seattle’s FoodLifeline, thereby minimizing food waste, this hotel is in partnership with local tour operator Evergreen Escapes to offer a variety of year-long packages that promote green travel.  Pan Pacific’s “Activino A La Carte” escape features a choice to paddle, hike, bike or rock climb followed by a Wine Trail Experience.  Guests are picked up and dropped off from/to the hotel, travelling in adventure-outfitted luxury Bio-Diesel Mercedes or Jeep and accompanied by a highly qualified naturalist guide. The package also includes lunch at Full Circle Organic Farm, morning and afternoon tea, selected Washington wine, refreshments, all entry fees and comprehensive naturalist commentary.  panpacific.com/Seattle

Inn Marin – California Wine Country
Inn Marin was recently awarded State Certification at the Leadership Level for California’s Green Hotel Certification program.  This is the highest honor bestowed upon hotels after a rigorous inspection and Inn Marin is the first property in California to receive this certification under the newly introduced and enhanced Green Lodging program.  In celebration of this recent distinction, Inn Marin offers the “Greener Paddling” package, which includes a two night stay at Inn Marin and The Morning Paddle on Tomales Bay with Blue Waters Kayaking, an easy paced naturalist-led two hour tour. Tomales Bay is a beautiful coastal inlet that is protected from the sea by the Point Reyes Peninsula, surrounded by scenic beauty and serenity with outstanding wildlife viewing opportunities. The pricing for the two night package ranges from $338-$378, plus tax for two people.  Additional suggestions for those truly green at heart would be: nearby hiking (Mt. Burdell and/or Pt. Reyes seashore); a visit to Muir Woods; and bird watching on the bay.  innmarin.com
