Follow on Google News | New Video Documentary on 1936 Olympic Gold Medalist, Adolph KieferFrom his Olympic and world record setting experiences to his life-long dedication of promoting health, safety and fitness, the newly released “Olympian for Life” video documentary highlights the inspirational story of Adolph Kiefer.
By: Adolph Kiefer and Associates, Inc. Available for viewing at www.kiefer.com, “Olympian For Life” recollects the near fatal accident Kiefer experienced as a young boy that forced him to learn how to swim. The documentary also reveals how Kiefer gained access to resources during the Great Depression that would allow him to master the backstroke and achieve Olympian status. Most importantly, the story communicates Kiefer’s passion to help others. According to Kiefer, his service as a Navy lieutenant during World War II in which he helped prepare a handbook on survival swimming and supervised the training of more than 13,000 naval swimming instructors was more important than any athletic achievement. Kiefer’s hope is that this video will be used to inspire America’s youth to learn to swim for safety, physical fitness, and self-confidence. The day the documentary was released, Kiefer and the video’s producer, Michal McClure, appeared live on WGN Chicago’s Midday Fix. During the interview, Michal McClure described how the project came about. As a neighbor and a still photographer, McClure simply wanted to visit with Kiefer and take his portrait. As the two men were talking about the Olympics McClure realized, “My gosh, this is history; I am viewing history! I have got to capture this.” As the story goes, McClure recruited some talent from Columbia University and proceeded to create the documentary.
